How to express this?

Hello Everyone,

If there’s a film or video clip in which the actor/singer is just at the beginning of their career and so the production has been made without any sponsor whatsoever and was financed entirely from the person’s own money, what adjective would you use to describe it?

I looked up self-financed but it seems to mean something different and seems to be used rather in connection with businesses/corporations.

Could you, please, let me know how I could express this? Thank you in advance!

If there's no adjective for it, I'll be happy with a verb or phrase, too.

Self-financed (produced) premier performance might work. Authors who fincance their own first works often work through a "vanity press".
