how to express it

Please could you help find a proper word for the following context?

1. I know you do not like math. However, either you apply for a degree in economics or a degree in business management, you have to pass the math exam.

2. US has been deeply bogged in the Iraq war. Either they withdraw or remain there, there is no good prospect.

As you see, I used "either...or..." I also considered "no matter...." "whatever..." but failed to construct the sentences in a way I see proper. Hope someone can help.

Thanks!
