if I want to describe one festival is the most important and the longest festival in that country, and with the most people to celebrate it.such as Christmas in West, which word or pharse should I describe the festival?

A note about the word "festival" - I wouldn't consider Christmas to be a "festival". I'd call it a "holiday". A "festival" is more limited in area - like you might have a Christmas festival in a certain city where people put on a parade, light up a Christmas tree, and so on.
