You can just say "demanded ... hard work", but it seems an anti-climax at the end of the sentence. "

You can just say "demanded ... hard work", but it seems an anti-climax at the end of the sentence. It may be better rearranged:

"The team leader demanded from his team members hard work, a serious attitude towards work and good team spirit."

Though Mr. Wordy's sentence is more proper but if you don't want to rearrange and just want to replace that part, you can replace it with: "that they should work hard". According to context you can replace the word "should" with "must".

This is the version that I find anti-climactic. There's something about the sequence "a serious attitude towards work ... and hard work" that doesn't quite work for me stylistically.
