how to avoid 'I'in the academic writing?

Dear all,
I'm working on an academic style report. how can I say what I did in a group work? because it have to be emphasized that it was found out by me and not anyone else.
apparently I can't use 'I' in the report. then how can I change it?
for example if I want to say:
I found out that X can be replaced by Y.
