how to arrange tenses in sequence of events?

good day all

how can i arrange series of events (or sequence of events) in a story ?

like :

The knight came down off the horse and sent the horse to the door of the grocery, the horse knocks at the door with his head, the when owner of the shop comes out the horse would make a gesture with his head to the grocer to answer the knight....

is the tenses right ? present, past and using the (would) ?

can I arrange them all in past tense ? but i want it to appear that the events happened more than one time....ie the knight and the horse have repeated this event more than one time..... how can I express this to the readers ?how can i deliver the message to readers ?
