How to answer a tag question

Regarding the following dialogue:

Andy is your friend, isn't he? --

(A) Yes, he is. (B) Yes, it is. (C) No, he is. (D) He is.

I'm pretty sure that (A) is fine and that (B) and (C) are no good. But I'm not sure about (D). What do you think about it? Is there any possibility that (D) can be an appropriate answer to the tag question?

You are correct: A is the correct answer. " C is wrong because the logic doesn't work. D COULD work, but is not the natural or expected answer.

May I ask you an additional question? In what cases does "He is" work as an answer?

I tried writing three dialogues myself. What do you think about them? Besides, could you please give me an example if you don't mind?

(1) I've been wondering if Andy is your friend. -- He is.
(2) I hear Andy is your
