How this form is ?

Hello all of you

As we know we use "mean" in present to say about our main intention or describe and express something

for instance : "this paper means they eager to meet you"

and we use "meant" to do the same thing I mentioned above but in the past form

for instance : what he was meant by his act ?

despite all I said, I've encountered with this sentence :

"Those behaves aren't meant to stay here "
but I thought it should have be used "mean" instead of "meant"

Please clarify me
with the best wishes

"Those behaviors aren't meant to stay here" can be rewritten like this - "Those behaviors do not belong in a place like this". "aren't meant" in this context is similar to "doesn't belong". " And then there is the "means" for of "mean" with yet another totally different meaning.

  • "Those behaviors aren't meant to stay here" can be rewritten like this - "Those behaviors do not belong in a place like this".
  • "aren't meant" in this context is similar to "doesn't belong".
  • " And then there is the "means" for of "mean" with yet another totally different meaning.
  • Hope that all helps a bit.

Another way to use meant:
"That equipment is not meant to be used that way." "meant" in this context is similar to using "not designed" or "not intended"-
"That equipment is not designed to

This correction still doesn't sound right to me, but on the other hand I'm not sure what 19216801 meant. I wondered if it was supposed to say "Those beehives aren't meant to stay here", but that could be too way out.

All I asked just was about the usage of "mean"

I agree, it still isn't right, I was just using his example sentence.

It's not directly related to the use of "meant", but "Those behaves aren't meant to stay here" isn't right. The word "behaves" does not fit in that position. Chipw suggested "Those behaviors aren't meant to stay her

When I wrote "Those behaviors aren't meant to stay here" I was simply correctly an apparent spelling error, not necessarily fixing the grammar issue. If the word is 'behaviors' the sentence might mean "Those behaviors do not belong here."

Chipw suggested "Those behaviors aren't meant to stay here", but this doesn't sound right to me either. I wondered what word you intended. I suggested "beehives", although it is a kind of oddball suggestion.

I can't wrap my head around the sentence "Some memories aren't meant/intended/expected/supposed/etc to leave traces." I just don't understand it. But that isn't important, here are more examples:

Some cars are not meant to be driven on a race track. ('meant' means 'designed')
Did he really say that? I hope he meant something else. ('meant' means 'intended to say')
