How should I understand the phrase "love you so"?

Hello.

I sometimes come across this phrase, and it makes me very curious. I think it means like "love you so much", in an old fashioned way, but Im not really sure.

Is anyone kind enough to help me understand it? Thanks.

Yes, here "so" means "so much" or "to a great extent". " To me, this usage has a poetic or perhaps, as you say, slightly old-fashioned feel. It's not something you commonly hear in everyday speech (not in my part of the world anyway).

Yes, here "so" means "so much" or "to a great extent". You can use it in the same way in other sentences:

"Don't cry so!"

"My leg hurts so!"
