"...how should I call you?"

"Excuse me but how should I call you?"

Suppose you wanted to know how you should refer to a tutor who had not introduced himself yet. Would this be a polite and natural way to do so?

Thank you

No, it's very unnatural. Say 'What should I call you, please?'
But my advice is to simply wait until he introduces himself. That will usually make the matter clear

You can also use the formal "Mr." and his last name (i.e. "Mr. Johnson") as a standard method of addressing someone. Teachers who want a specific title, often if it is less formal, will often reply and say what they prefer (i.e. "Call me Jerry").
