How or what?

When I visited the U.S. last summer, my English was not good enough.

So I am determined to study English harder so that I can learn more about how Americans live and think.

Is it better to say, how they live and what they think? Or can I just use "how" for both live and think?

nicetomeetyou so that I can learn more about how Americans live and think. Fine. I don't see any reason to change it.
