If "How many times a week do you go swimming at the local pool?" is possible, could you tell me why "How many times do you go swimming at the local pool a week?" is not? In case of 'per', both of "How many times per week do you go swimming at the local pool?" and "How many times do you go swimming at the local pool per week?" are all okay, so I can hardly understand why

lucas21c"How many times do you go swimming at the local pool a week?" is not?
It is possible, but the time phrase "times per week" is much more logical because it has the measurement together with the units.

If you separate the two, it's like asking this when you want to know the top speed of a car:
How many miles (kilometers) does this car go per
