How much will that be?

Hello~
A few days ago, I learned 'How much will that be?' sentence.
I thought many people use it, but when I googled it, I couldn't find it as much as I expected.

Can I use it in the below situation?

(I want to buy 4 of 5 items on a shop but can't count how much money i need to buy all of them.)
Me : (pointing items) "How much will that be?"
Clerk : "23.75 dollars."

If I can use this sentence in the above situation, I'm confused now.
'How much will that / those be?'
Which one is correct?

I'm not good at English so my question is a bit silly. Thanks for your kindness in advance.

That's because we only use it when we're in the shop. This is correct:

Me: (pointing to items) "How much will those be?"
Clerk: "23 dollars and 75 cents."
