How much "is it" or "does it cost" to go to somewhere

Hi, I have a question.

Which expression is correct, or more common if both correct, "How much is it to go to L.A.?" or "How much does it cost to go to L.A.?"

Thank you for your help.

Both are OK. If you say this eg while standing in a bus station or when talking to an airline, all is well. Otherwise, you need to specify the form of transportation that you are asking about.
