How many years' experience

Hi teachers,

Can I say "How many years' experience do you have of / in teaching English ?"

Thank you in advance

Hello TV, Yes, that's fine. To my ears, "of" would be the usual preposition; but "in" is also seen and heard. Best wishes, MrP

Except that it would be "years experience", not "years' experience" - the experience does not belong to the years.

If you asked someone "how much experience do you have in teaching?" the answer would be "20 years", not "20 years'"

It is the same as 20 dollars change or two weeks notice - Q: how much notice did you give? A: two weeks

It's definitely (x) years' experience, just like it's two weeks' notice.
