How many syllables are there in "diphtheria''?

In Oxford Advanced Learner's Dictionary
diph.theria = two syllables

In Longman Dictionary of Contemporary English

diph.ther.i.a = four syllables

Can someone elaborate on that?

OALD does't syllabify words. Second, I don't know where you got that idea from whatever listed in OALD
