How many periods?

When you're about to trail off of a sentence, is it ok to have two periods, or is it always three?
For instance:

This is my sentence..

or

This is my sentence...

and also, is there a difference with before a sentence:

..This is my sentence

...This is my sentence

is it EVER ok to have 2 periods instead of 3?
