How many million

Hi

How many millions did he lose?
How many million did he lose?
How many million dollars did he lose?

To it seems like the first one is incorrect. But do the last two work?

I know one could just ask "how much money" but the point here is to find out the number in millions.

My usage, and what I find most often: He lost 22 million dollars. He lost 22 millions of dollars. He lost millions of dollars. He lost a million dollars. Some searching at Google may be interesting.

That's one reason that we ask anonymous posters to register here. When we have two or three different 'Anonymous'es posting in one thread, things can become very confusing.

I'm confused about the structure in questions. So far I think these are the only correct:

I think that "how many millions....(did he earn?) fits with what I found correct above.

I have another example:

How many [million / millions / millions] years did it take for the species to evolve?

For some reason I'm inclined towards 'million'.
