How many days or for how many days

Are the sentences below correct ?

For how many days are you going to London?( means to ask how many days the person is going to stay in London)

For how many years I have looked forward to this day! ( means to say I have looked forward to this day for so many years)

Should 'for' be left out?

Please help!

There is nothing grammatically wrong with these sentences but they sound anomalous to me. From what I have seen in the first sentence 'for' should be moved to the end of the sentence. ' That's it.

From what I have seen in the first sentence 'for' should be moved to the end of the sentence.

But the second sentence is way too odd to say.You should go for this 'I have looked forward tp this day for so many years.' That's it.
