When you insert ' do you think' in the middle of sentence, is the following sentence structure correct?

How many countries do you think there are( or are there?) in the world?

Well, If I were to frame that sentence, I'd say 'How many countries, do you think, are there?'

I would have put 'do you think' between a couple of commas.
