How long is memory

Does this make sense to you and what would be the correct way to formulate it?

How long is a one year old baby's memory? Will it remember something that happened months ago?

This is perfectly understandable, but the usage is not quite right. You can say that someone has a long memory, but you would not ask him: How long is your memory? You'd say instead: How far back can you remember?
