How long has it been and How long is it

Dear all,

Kindly tell me whether the following sentences are correct. If yes, I would like to know the difference in their meaning.

1) How long has it been since you got married?

2) How long is it since you got married?

Thank you.

They are both correct and they have the same meaning; however, 'has it been since' is used about five times as much as 'is it since'. 'has it been' is considered by many to be "more correct". CJ
