How long does it take?

Hi guys,
I know this must be a really stupid question, but I'm confused and one more time I need your help.
Yesterday I had my entry test and there was a task in which you have to write questions for given answers. One of the answers was
"two hours."
I asked "How long will it take?"
Well my teacher says it's wrong, he says one can only ask "How long will it take sb to do smth?" For example: How long will it take you to do your homework.
Is this really wrong? Sound unnatural? I think it all depends on the context. For example when you see sb painting the house, do you have to ask" How long will it take you to paint this house with this green paint....?" or just "How long will take?' is appropriate. And nearly the same: Is it possible to say "How long does the journey take?"
Any help will be appreciated.

"How long will it take?" is fine, in my opinion, as a question to which the answer might be "two hours."

"How much time will it take" is fine, but we don't say "how long time will it take?".

thanks khoff,

but i don't understand why don't we say how long time?

e.g. we say " how long day did you stay there" or " how long week"

did you want to me say " not how long time " it should be how much time, shouldn't it.

Are these correct sentences?

How long ago did he moved out of the town? How long time ago did he move out of the town?

Thanks.

Yunus, we can't say * How long day...? or *How long week...? It' "How many days...?", or "How many weeks...?" (I guess that's what you want to say?)

"How long" = "how much time". If you say "how long time", then it's the same as saying "How long time time", so you see it's impossible!
