How long did the skier take?

Last month in Nagano, Picabo Street made a dramatic return from a serious injury to her left knee, winning the gold in the Super G by a fraction of a second. But last week in the season's final World Cup downhill race in Switzerland, Street, 26, took a tumble that fractured her left thigh bone (the femer). It will be many months before she can ski, but don't count her out. A firm believer in reincarnation, Picabo might very well come back again.

Q. When will the skier compete again?

a. Never.

b. After two such injuries it's not recommended.

c. Before a long recovery

d. Maybe soon.

Dear friends.

I have chosen "C. before a long recovery", but the answer of a private English language institute in South Korea was "D. maybe soon." However, I can't accept that, because it looks absolutely clear for the sentence It will be many months before she can ski to imply the answer "C". In addition, I have actually googled Picabo Street, and found that it took her about 2 years to return to the her next match.

What do you think of that? Who looks right?

Hi,

I think C makes no sense (but I'm a learner, so take my words with a pinch of salt Emotion: wink).
How could she compete again

Dear friends.

Thank you for your answers.

I have thought that "C" means that before a long period or process of recovery from her injury, she will come back because she don't give in easily so that she can complete the process of recovery earlier than those who give in easily. Even if her doctor told her to take about 2 years for recovery by rehabilitation progarms, then

Your reasoning or your understanding of the language is in error. 'Recovery' is a process, and it is not over until it is over. The text would have to read something like 'before full recovery' or 'before the end of a long recovery' in order to make sense in English.

By any chance, is there the possibility of "D. maybe

No. The text reads: 'It will be many months before she can ski, but don't count her out'. There is no suggestion that she will come back before the 'many months', just that she will return to competition again.

By the way, it is interesting to see that you researched the actual situation, but be warned that correct test answers do NOT depend on outside corroboration and can in fact be
