Suppose Pat lives in Paris and Tom came to Paris and Pat met Tom today, November 8, 2008. Today is the first time for them to meet each other.
Bob stayed Paris during the following two periods and is going to stay Paris for four more days, i.e. until November 12, 2008.

period 1: from November 1, 2000 to October 31, 2001 (for just one year)
period 2: from November 1, 2008 to November 8, 2008 (for eight days)
