Hi,

The adverb 'long' said without modifications, e.g. too long , is mostly used in negative and interrogative expressions:

How long will it take to get to the railway station?

It won't take long.

Hello

Just to add that, apart from sport and games, you can also play instruments. For example He plays the guitar.

If you were talking about a particular player you might ask "Who does XX play for"? As XX is evidently a football player/ Rugby player (etc) you do not need to add the game after the word play. The response would be "He plays for Liverpool / Cardiff (etc)"

I can imagine that someone is admiring, say, a grand piano or a Fender guitar, and the owner of the instrument says "[Do] You play?"

Just as you already have the context with "He plays for Manchester United" with the sports question, you already have the context for the instrument in that situation as well.
