How it work or how it works

1) After taking it a few times, you will learn how it work for you.
2) After taking it a few times, you will learn how it works for you.

Which one is correct?
I believe the first one is grammatically correct.
Any help would be very much appreciated.
and it would be great if you can point me out the rule of composing this kind of clause, so I can fully understand it.
