How is your work going?
What are you doing now? [Here I met my old friend after many years and I asked him 'what are you doing now' to mean "Are you doing any work or any studies or anything else"]
How are you doing with your studies?
What have you been upto?

What are you doing now? [Here I met my old friend after many years and I asked him 'what are you doing now' to mean "Are you doing any work or any studies or anything else"]
Also sounds ok. A good alternative would be, "What have you been doing lately?" "What have you been doing in the past few months/years/weeks/days?
