How I can understand the differences between National brand and Store brand

When I am studying about the merchandise I see national brands and store brands..and I searched the google. Finally I found an explanation from Wikepedia- "

The brand name of a product that is distributed nationally under a brand name owned by the producer or distributor, as opposed to local brands (products distributed only in some areas of the country), and private label brands (products that carry the brand of the retailer rather than the producer.)

National brands must compete with local and private brands. National brands are produced by, widely distuted by, and carry the name of the manufacturer.
  • Local brands may appeal to those consumers who favor small, local producers over large national or global producers, and may be willing to pay a premium to "buy local"
  • The private label producer can offer lower prices because they avoid the cost of marketing and advertising to create and protect the brand. In North America, large retailers such as Loblaws, Walgreenand Wal-Mart all offer private label products."

But after reading it I got confused, I still can not understand what's national brand and what is store /private brand. Can someone can tell me in an easy way please..?

I think all the information is in that article, if you sort it out like this: National brand = The brand name of a product that is distributed nationally under a brand name owned by the producer or distributor. National brands are produced by, widely distributed by, and carry the name of the manufacturer. Now, if a store is a national store (one of a large chain, for instance), then its store brand is also a national brand.

  • But if the store is just one store or just a few stores in a limited area , then theirs is a store or local brand .
