How do you use 'guess'?

Please tell me if this sentence (question) is grammatically correct as well as being idiomatic(?)

'Why don't you have a guess?'

I feel it's not correct neither grammatically nor idiomatically(?)

If my hunch is right then tell me how I should change it

Yes, 'take a guess' would sound much more natural to my American
ears. And if there was almost nothing on which to base the guess,
you might say 'take a wild guess'

Here in Britain we're more likely to just say "have a guess!" rather than "Why don't you have a guess"
