how do you understand this sentence?

Hi Guys,

Today, when I was translating a movie for my parents, I came across this situation. Criminal forensic was talking about the suspect.

.

.
"Anyway, he was really into model trains". (He probably was a fan of the model trains, they found one later at his flat.)

"You know, the way a serial killer's really into pets." (I have absolutely no idea, what was the point of this sentence...:-(((

can you guys help me with the second sentence...

many thanks

But I wonder, if the synonym list of the to word "pet" includes the word "hobby"......

OK, generally speaking, serial killers move on to killing human beings after spending some years killing/torturing animals (pets). Nearly all of them have an animal torture history, and this is quite well known. So it's a sarcastic sentence - it refers to the fact that serial killers like to kill/torure animals. So, liking something in the way that serial killers like pets, is not a good thing!
