How do you say this?

You have two stack of cheques on your table. One in us dollar, and the other, in uk pound, 50:50 each. You count the uk stack once again and you notice that there's only 49 cheques in it.

Is, "I think the 50th uk cheque got mixed with the us stack" the right and natural way to express it?
