How do you say change of notes/bill?

How do you say change of notes?

I know change of coins is called change, but is it still okay to say change for change of notes?

Thank you.

If you go to a store and purchase a $10 item with a $50 bill, you will receive $40 in change. If you go to a store and purchase a 10 cent item with a 25 cent coin, you will receive 15 cents in change. Loose coins in your pocket can be referred to as 'change' (I have a pocket full of change).

Thank you for your explanation! Do I understand correctly?

Coins can be called change anytime, while notes can only be referred in the situation you buy something and receive change.
