The receptionist will just say 'Here's your room key '. For one thing, they don't make a key for a hotel room — they activate an electronic key-card. It's common knowledge among hotel guests that the key-card will cease to unlock the door at the end of the agreed number of nights stay – whether pre-paid or not.

Yes you are right, but for longer stays, like a month long stay, a guest might pay for the first 2 weeks and pay for the last 2 some time during the last two weeks. In this case, we will still activate the key card for a month.

I wasn't telling the guest that statement, I was telling a cowork who has just started working with us. So how would you naturally write my statement, please? than

'We activate the key-card for the number of nights the guest has arranged to stay here'.

The new coworker may not need to know how the guest is going to pay his bill. That's a different matter.
