The question is concerning the possessive form of the Proper Noun, in this case Jesus. How does one pronounce the possessive form such as "Jesus' presence" or "Jesus' mother?"

Any takers?

Hi,

Just pronounce it as '2 esses' - Jesus's mother. Chris's mother. Tom's mother.

How is Jesus' pronounced? Is it Jesus (no additiona S sound) Yes. or Jesus-s? No. Are both pronunciations correct? Not as written. You would need Jesus's for the additional /iz/ on the end. Though the 's is usually added for modern names, it is quite typical to use only the ' for the possessive for historical figure

If you are concerned with the possessive, it might help to remember that the possessive "'s" is an abbreviation of "his", so archaically it would be "Jesus his mother.

What I believe the above poster is asking is whether it is correct to say "Jesus's, pronounced "Geezuses." I would say no. This is a pet peeve of mine. A few years ago you never heard anyone pronounce it like that. Now I even hear it from the pulpit. It should just be pronounced "Geezus." For instance, If I said "Jesus's followers." I would pronounce it "Geezus followers," not "Geezuses f

I think there is simply acceptable variation and neither is right and neither is wrong.

In gee-zus-iz name we pray, amen.
In gee-zus name we pray, amen.

I say the former. Other say the latter.

Surely, the sentiment behind it is more worthy of attention than the pronunciation.

How do you refer to Aaron? Mo-ziz brother or Mo-ziz-iz brother?
