How do you do?asking for the exact meaning

hi there!

I have a question.what should I say to sound natural in reply after that sentence"how do you do?" I know it as a way of greeting but the meaning is not so clear that I hesitate whether it is a question.

Thanks.

balsamina reply after that sentence"how do you do?"
If you are being introduced to someone and they say "How do you do?", just repeat "How do you do?" to them.

This is an empty formula. It is not really a question that requires a thought-out answer.

You are not likely to hear "How do you do?" in any other situation except introductions.
