How do you do?

Hi,

I know how do you do is a formal greeting. It's meaning is It's my pleasure to meet you.

But i have seen so many people replying 'I am fine' for that. Is it correct?

It's not the standard response, which is simply to say 'How do you do?'

I don't hear 'How do you do?' much anymore. I wonder if in 10 or 20 years anyone will still say it.
