How do you call the hole where you put the earring?

Hi Emotion: smile
I know it sounds odd, but I've been looking for this everywhere and couldn't find anything!
Is there a way to say that you've got a new hole in your ear to put an earring? [:^)] Could piercing be right, even if it's a hole in the ear?

Sorry for the bizarre question Emotion: stick out tongue

No it's not a bizarre question. And yes, 'piercing' is the term most commonly used. - I've had another ear-piercing done today.

- I've had another ear-piercing done today.

In both ears?

- No, just my left ear.

Instead of:

I've had another hole put in my ear today.

- Has it affected your hearing?

Yes, with two holes in my ear I hear things twice as loud now.
