Essay & Composition Writing

How do I write about "context"?

For an assignment, I'm writing about "context" in computer mediated communications, one of the examples that I'd like to portray in my essay, is eBay. I'm not so sure about how to go about "context" though. I've written other parts of my essay, such as form, use and audience. eBay, will be compared to another computer mediated communication, which I am also stuck on for "context", but I think if someone could help me with one, I will understand the whole idea of context.

But if anyone could elaborate/explain context, maybe even give points about context on eBay, or another completely different site, it'd be great.

(Note; if you wanted to know, my other computer mediated communication is iTunes.)
I've been writing about their uses, form and audience, and how they become paired sometimes on several of other sites, , which you can buy albums from either eBay, or iTunes.

This essay is mainly about the differences/similarities in context.

I appreciate your help! Emotion: smile

Clivecontext of eBay
Hi, I'm told to write about both social context and verbal context. So putting into account the definition you just showed me (thanks, it actually cleared a bit of things up), would a social context of eBay, be 'advertising', for example?
Then if that's the case, a social context of iTunes, would be something along the lines of selling

Well, my understanding of context so far, is why something exists; The reasoning behind it.
So social context is would be why it exists for social purposes?

Hi,

Yes, an area to focus on would be eg why eBay and iTtunes exist, and why they are so popular and successful.
