How do I understand "within weeks of losing one's house"?

I stumbled upon a Live Science article titled "The Truth About Shopaholics" at http://www.livescience.com/2338-truth-shopaholics.html and there was the following paragraph:

_Koran recalls some of the compulsive buyers in his research declaring bankruptcy and getting divorced over their buying disorder. *One woman was within weeks of losing her house.* _

My question is, which of the following understanding of the last sentence is correct?

1. The woman was in a process of losing her house, which might occur after weeks when Koran met her. (She hadn't lost her house yet.)
2. The woman had lost her house weeks ago when Koran met her.
3. Some other explanation.

Thanks a lot!

I think it might need to consider the context of this paragraph. Since there is a conclusion at the beginning that "some of them declaring bankruptcy and getting divorced over their buying disorder", the sentence of "was within weeks of losing her house" should be a fact particularized for supporting his conclusion.
