How do I understand about "against+~"?

Hi,

I'm trying to understand the below sentence. but I'm feel quite a bit hard to understand.


"Ageism means discrimination against people because of their age. And sometimes people can be discriminated against in the workplace for being 'too old'."


Would you please help me how to interpret "discrimination against people" and "sometimes people can be discriminated against in the workplace for being 'too old'."?
