How do I start an application letter

Hi!

I have a small question with big importance (for me at least). How do I start an application for a job? Do I write: For whom it may concern. or would something else be more appropriate? It feels so stiff . But maybe it ought to be that way? It's an application for a teacher job.

It's best to use the name of the person who will review your application. If it is not mentioned in the advert, you could try to figure it out anyway - they'll definitely appreciate the effort
