How do i say these?

1) I intended to celebrate the ending of my college years in a memorable way (going to Florida) but that plan had never materialized. Since that did not work, I guess that (going to Hawaii) this was the best replacement.

2) I hated how these "Hot Shots" got all the attention while I was virtually left out in the dusk.

3) It really didn't bother me anyways because I knew that (I was or had been) the true winner all along.
