How do I say? textbooks + manuals + classes + preparation

Hello. I want to say that I prepared classes for a particular course using some textbooks and manuals as a basis or reference but I do not want to imply that students used the textbooks and manuals in the classroom. Something like:

Classes were prepared based on well-known textbooks and manuals.

I prepared classes for the course using X's textbook and Y's manual as main sources of input.

Is there a better way to express this idea?

Thank you.
