How do I frame the question?

The college bookstore offers an option to buy back at the end of the semester the books you have purchased (boy, are those books expensive, even used ones! anyone know a reputable and trustworthy websites that sell for less by the way?) , and I want to know how much I would get back, not neccessary the exact amount but a rough estimate or percentage of the purchase price. What would a native speaker say to articulate the question in any forms, formal or informal?

Thanks a lot

Raen: I would ask the question: What are your terms, conditions and policies for buy back or returns of books purchased? I would expect their answer to contain the following information: restocking fees (non refundable part of your purchase, usually on a per-item basis) shipping charges percent of money returned based on the condition of the returned item (like new, good, acceptable, etc), and description of the criteria for assigning the attribute time limits on returns (since new editions are published continuously, the old editions become practically worthless) correspondence or permissions required before return, timeliness of money returned etc.

Thank you A. Star for the thorough information, I appreciate it. If I just want to focus on how they compute the money repaid to me upon buy back regardless the terms, what would one say in a colloquial way? Maybe this would help point to the direction I want. At the store I almost asked, but stopped mid-sentence before I made a fool of myself:

"What's the return rate?"

If I return this book in new condition, what would you pay me?
How do you compute the amount when you buy a book back?
Often, the amount will depend on lots of different things - there is probably not a set percentage. That's why it is important to understand all the terms and conditions.

Hi,

AlpheccaStars, when do we use the plural form of the word that I would consider to be uncountable "permission"? Why did you use the word "permissions"?
