round the number down to what? Do I just say round the number down?

Yes.

It's impossible to sell half an item, so the number you sell will be a whole number; if the total items is odd, then half of that number will always be something and a half; if you round the number down, it rounds downwards to the next whole number.

There may be other ways to express what you want to say, but I think this is the simplest.
