How could my money be in your room ?

( This is fake story )
My money was lost, but I found it later in my roommate's room.

Is it grammatically correct to ask my roommate like this.

How could my money be in your room ?

or

How could my money stay in your room ?

Probably, I want to use 'How' in this sentence.

Thank you.

Hi, My money was lost, but I found it later in my roommate's room. If he is your roommate, you share a room. So it is your room, too.
