How can make my downloaded SAT words useful to me?

Question

Dear friends
Recently i downloaded some 1800+ SAT words from a Raj Bapna .... web site.I am now concentrating on basic English words,as suggested to me by one of the good mentors in this forum.But,my question is:Would the SAT words be useful in written English and recognizing words while reading?.How long will it take to add them to my passive vocabulary?
Need your suggestions on this.Thank you.

Hi David,

I think trying to learn a list of 1800 words is going to drive you crazy.

My best advice for improving your vocabulary is to read a lot of English. This takes time, and there are really no shortcuts.

And when you find a word you don't know, stop.  Try to figure it out by context, but then confirm your guess by looking it up. Write it down to help you remember the word.

I think so too. When you can listen,say,read and write the word, you can really know the use of the word.
