How can I understand this phrase "at a rate of one thousand 160-character lines per minute"?

This is from a book "High School Subjects Self-Taught":
"Thye operate at tremendous rates of speed, since some can perform calculations in millionths of a second and print out the results at a rate of one thousand 160-character lines per minute."

How can I understand this phrase "at a rate of one thousand 160-character lines per minute"?
Does "one thousand 160-character lines" mean 1060 lines?

If so, is it ok to mix word and numbers?

Could you tell me, please?

After I posted that question, I came up with an idea. That means 1000 lines each of which consist of 160 characters. Am I right in thinking this way?
