How can I make this sentence sound better?

Being internatioinally-minded means being able to understand other

peoples' cultures, compare them with your own, and treat them in the

same way you would your own kind.

I expect that you mean people's rather than peoples' . I have a difficulty understanding the purpose of the word "kind". I most naturally read "your own kind" as meaning "your own race/people", but from the overall meaning I wonder whether you intend it to mean "your own kind of culture".

  • If the latter, I would just delete "kind".
  • If the former, I'm not sure the comparison quite works.

Thank you, GPY. Actually, I meant to say "peoples' as in different ethnic groups." Also, what I meant by "your own kind" is "your own race." This is a translation exercise I have to teach in class, but my answer is not satisfactory enough, because it does still sound confusing even to a native speaker.

I see, well then technically other peoples' is not wrong, but because it is so unusual it does tend to look like a mistake for the far more common other people's.

I see, I think I' d better rewrite what I wrote. I am glad to know that the original sentence can be misleading because of the use of pronouns.Thank you!

I just came up with another idea about this confusing sentence to make it less confusing. I'd really appreciate it if you could check it for me:-)

Being internationally-minded means being able to understand other cultures, compare them with your own, and by doing so treat other peoples impartially.

That's an amazing idea!!! Thank you very much for your great suggestion:)
That would be a great help to my students, too.
I know myself that I am far from a perfect teacher or a perfect English speaker,
but I'm very determined to do whatever I can to help my students to get a lot
out of my classes
